Ice spells rapidly fill its stagger gauge, while melee attacks have oly a slight effect on it, and long-range and other element attacks have no effect. Crippling its tentacles will cause it to reveal its heart, and attacking its heart will rapidly fill its stagger gauge.

When the Failed Experiment shows up, Barret is the best for attacking its Appendages which are weak to his gun attacks. Once the weakpoint appears, switch to Tifa to quickly stagger it and lay down the hurt.
Tips & Strategies for Beating Failed Experiment
Equip ice materia.
While physical damage may be more than enough for this boss, having ice magic is always safe. Shiva will do massive damage as well.
Take Out the Unknown Entities
Before the boss will even appear you will have to fight a few waves of these. They are weak but make up for it in numbers. Hit them with Barret's Focused Shot when grouped up or combo Tifa's Whirling Uppercut into Divekick to take them out quickly. Once the boss spawns you will want to keep taking them out, as during phase 3 Failed Experiment will use them to heal itself.
Shoot it in the Tentacles
With Barret, shoot its Appendages to briefly stun it, revealing its weakpoint. Dealing damage to the Heart will increase its stagger gauge much quicker so this should be your main goal throughout the fight.
Stagger For Massive Damage
Like every other enemy and boss before it, you can deal a huge amount of damage when it's staggered. If you have Tifa use Unbridled Strength twice and use her unique ability Rise and Fall, she can increase the damage done to Failed Experiment to make the most of the short time.
Best Characters and Equipment
Best materia to use.
The number of slots in your Weapon may vary depending on your Weapon Level.
Ice is Essential
Equip Headband to Counter Sleep
Block against its jumping attack
When Failed Experiment jumps onto one of your characters, be sure to hold R1 to guard immediately. This attack will do major damage even when blocked, but if it hits a party member who fails to block it, they'll have a difficult time recovering and getting back into the battle.
Focus on the Appendages and try to end the fight quickly
On Hard Mode, Failed Experiment will deal significantly more damage with each attack, and if you play too defensively, this battle can stretch out and wear your party down. Wait for the Appendages to appear, and use Barret's Elemental + Ice attacks to hit hard, while slamming them with Ice Magic. Once you've destroyed the Appendages, target the Heart, which will allow you to Stagger Failed Experiment. If you can deal enough damage while Staggered, you can wrap this fight up quickly.
Unknown Entities will continue harassing you throughout the fight, but by casting Silence on Failed Experiment, you can significantly limit their effectiveness, and won't have to spend too much time destroying them. Focus on hitting Failed Experiment and ignore the little guys for the most part.
Hide behind obstacles during Plasma Discharge
Failed Experiment will use its ultimate attack Plasma Discharge to strike almost the entire field in one blow. However, you can avoid this attack by hiding behind the obstacles on the map. These obstacles are not close to the position from where you start the battle, so you'll have to move closer to these obstacles during the battle in preparation for Plasma Discharge.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake: How To Beat Reno & Rude, Failed Experiment & Abzu (Rematch) | Chapter 12-14 Bosses Guide
Take on the Turks and other monsters as we march toward the finale of FF7R.
We’re preparing for the final showdown with Shinra in Final Fantasy 7 Remake . Before raiding the Sector 0 tower, you’ll have to face down two Turks, a strange monster from a hidden lab, and a returning pet from an old enemy. The bosses are getting tougher, so you’ll have to upgrade your game and use all the materia available to you. Before we continue, there’s one strategy I’ve discovered that helps with these bosses.
You’ll be using Tifa, Cloud and Barret for the following fights — and there’s one strategy you can use to combine their powers effectively. Barret has two incredibly handy skills that are unique to him; Steelskin and Lifesaver. Equip Chakra (and maybe Prayer) on Barret, and you can become a damage sponge — staying out of combat, soaking up damage from your allies, and healing easily. Combine that with Cloud / Tifa using a Magnified Barrier or Manaward, and you’ll have much less trouble managing damage. Give it a try!
For all the specific info, scroll down to conquer these three big battles.

Reno & Rude
- Weaknesses: Aero (Rude), Punisher Mode Counterattack (Reno)
Before beginning this fight, make sure that Barret is properly equipped for the fight. Give him all the equipment he needs, and upgrade his weapon. Fill his materia slots with support magic like Manaward. Barret joins your party right at the start of this fight, so it helps to be prepared.
This fight has three phases — first, you’ll fight Reno alone. Later, Rude will join with a helicopter. Later, once you destroy the chopper, both Turks will fight you at the same time. They’re tricky, so I recommend focusing on Rude first. use Wind (Aero) to build his Stagger gauge and take him out of the fight early. Both of the Turks are difficult to predict, and use a variety of powerful attacks that can be tricky to dodge.
You’ll need complete concentration to deal with Reno. Most of Reno’s attacks are elementally-infused with electricity. Those you won’t be able to counterattack with a Punisher Mode parry. Watch Reno and wait for him to prepare an attack. If there’s no title card, you’re safe to parry him and make him vulnerable to Stagger.
If you have Cloud’s Ascension Limit Break, use it again Reno and Rude (but especially Reno) you’ll want to save it for the final phase. Use all your Limit Breaks on Reno (or Rude) to quickly defeat one of them. When you’ve only got one of them to deal with, this fight gets much easier. Trying to fight both of them for too long can get really hard.
Failed Experimen t
- Weakness: Exposed Weakpoint (Target Appendages)
The Failed Experiment is located at the top of the Shinra Test Facility, encountered after you rescue Wedge. You’ll have to fight this swarm of monsters with only Barret and Tifa. Equip them so they can heal themselves!
In the first phase of the fight, you’ll have to fight swarms of minions. These enemies aren’t tough — you can defeat them quickly with Barret’s Unique Attack and with Tifa’s enhanced Unique Attacks. With Tifa, use Unbridled Strength twice to enhance her Unique Attack twice, then unleash your upgraded power to kill minions in one hit.
Eventually, the Failed Experiment will show itself. This massive beast uses the minions that spawn as weapons, or will defend itself with these endlessly-appearing creatures. In the first section, Tifa and Barret will be separated — after Tifa rushes up the stairs to the catwalk. Swap to Barret and use Overdrive (Unique Attack) to rapidly destroy the Appendages on the monster’s back.
When the Appendages are destroyed, the boss will be Staggered and reveal a weak point. The weak point is the best way to damage this thing. After revealing the weak point once, the boss will reach its true form. Use Focused Shot to aim for the Appendages or use Overcharge — when it’s Staggered, use Tifa’s Unbridled Strength twice to increase its total Stagger Bonus. Use your Limit Breaks after boosting the Stagger Bonus, and this battle can be over fast.
Abzu (Rematch)
- Weakness: Fire
Abzu returns for a secound round, and he’s even tougher this time. You’ll have to deal with swarms of Shoat babies while trying to deal with him. He has two parts you can focus on — the tail and horn, but they aren’t required. Like last time, he’ll periodically summon blasts of water from the large open pipes, so when he’s about to unleash a ‘Deluge’ make sure to stand far away from those pipes.
Use Fira to put Abzu into a Pressured state. While he’s pressured, he can’t move so you’re free to use everything you’ve got to damage him. It’s difficult to Stagger this Abzu, and he’ll recover quickly due to the many, many phase shifts in the fight.
I recommend equipped Barrier linked with Magnify to protect against his heavy-duty attacks, and use Barret with a long-range weapon while equipped with Pray materia to keep your party healed. You can also use Steelskin on Barret — combine that with Lifesaver and Chakra to keep Cloud and Tifa totally protected while Barret absorbs (low) damage and heals up with Chakra.

This Final Fantasy 7 Remake Failed Experiment Boss guide will help you against the deformed boss and his minions in Chapter 13 – A Broken World during the mission “Finding Wedge.” We’ll provide tips, strategies and recommend equipment and Materia to best take it on.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Failed Experiment Boss
The Failed Experiment boss in FF7 Remake is an experimental specimen kept in Shinra’s underground research facility.
The creature was formed as a result of a cellular transplant from various creatures but turned out a failed experiment.
The boss is weak to Ice. Failed Experiment has resistance against Sleep and is Immune to Poison, Slow, Stop, Berserk, Fixed Damage, Proportional Damage.
So, equipping Ice Materia and the Shiva Summon Materia is recommended to help fill its stagger gauge. Also, link Ice Materia to Barret and Tifa to help poke at its weakness more.
Failed Experiment drops Mythril Claws and Poison Materia is present as a Stealable Item. To get your hands on that poison Materia, you’d need to equip the steal Materia.
Failed Experiment Boss Fight Strategy The Failed Experiment boss fight in FF7 Remake is not very complicated, given that you have the correct Materia equipped for the fight.
The boss summons many Unknown Entities beside him. It’s best to use damaging group attacks to deal with them as they may overpower Tifa.
Use hard hitting abilities such as Maximum Fury to deal damage and if your abilities are charging, use Barret to damage the Appendages.
Keep in mind that ranged battle is your best bet as the Livewire ability of the Failed Experiment deals lots of electrical damage to everyone in melee range. It also knocks you back and allows follow up attacks.
Failed Experiment likes to jump around the arena, so you need to make sure you time your heavy attacks such that they actually hit it. Do not miss.
As it jumps, Failed Experiment throws around pools of poison around. You need to keep an eye out for these as you move around yourself and use chakra to avoid them.
Your main focus should be to use Shiva’s Summon abilities once she arrives. Use protective spells until then and once she arrives, use your own ATB charges on healing Shiva’s Summon.
Keep the barrage on the Failed Experiment until it’s chest open. Then focus your strongest abilities on the exposed chest and this will bring the fight to a conclusion.

Failed Experiment
Failed Experiment is a specimen that inhabits the Shinra underground facility. Prior to its transformation, it lived as a human. Due to the intervention of transplants, the human transformed into an abomination. Failed Experiment is weak to ice.

Before you encounter Failed Experiment, you need to get rid of the Unknown Entity on the platform. Have Tifa take out all the enemies on the platform to complete the first half.
Use Group Abilities.
Ice materia fares well against the Failed Experiment. When the fight starts, you’ll need to take out the horde of Unknown Entities. Combine regular attacks with group abilities such as Starshower and Maximum Fury to whittle them down.
Focus on the boss’ Appendages.
When the boss appears, shift your aim towards it and attack its appendages. If you’re using Tifa and find that she’s having trouble against the wave, swap to Barret and have him focus on the limbs.
Use Ice spells or summon Shiva.
After breaking the appendages, you’ll expose its heart. You can opt to summon Shiva, otherwise bombard him with attacks like Blizzaga.
Use Barret and support from the back.
Eventually the boss will toss the surrounding enemies. Barret isn’t the best at dodging attacks but with Tifa, she should keep the boss busy from relying on much of the ranged attacks. Continue to support Tifa from the back by attacking the appendages and then blasting the heart

(FF7R) Final Fantasy VII Remake – Failed Experiment (Boss Fight) Guide
Failed Experiment is a strange looking boss that can be found and fought during Chapter 13 – A Broken World .
Unfortunately for this boss you will be a member short as only Barret and Tifa will be able to fight it as Cloud will be elsewhere for now.
Also to begin with you will only be taking on the Failed Experiment’s minions, after you have done enough damage and killed enough of it’s minions, the boss will then show itself.
NAME: Failed Experiment CHAPTER: Chapter 13 – A Broken World WEAKNESS: Ice HP: 11229 EXP GAINED: 950 AP GAINED: 10 GIL GAINED: 950 DROPS: Mythril Claws RARE DROPS: STEALABLE ITEMS: Poison Materia
The boss’s minions are not too difficult though there are quite a lot of them, they do however have a weakness. Their weakness is Ice and thus you should try and exploit that.
When the main boss arrives, in order to progress the fight and allow Tifa to drop back off the platform you will need to defeat all of the minions that join her on this platform. When the minions are dealt with and stop spawning, the platform will then collapse and Tifa can finally join Barret once again. Getting the boss to stagger before this, also works too.
Anyway some of the Failed Experiment’s attacks include; Fury where he will use his arms and tentacles to swing at your party members. He will also use his minions in an attack known as Claim and Fling where he will grab the minions and use them as projectiles.
Livewire is another move that he can use, this will be an AOE attack, where he will charge electricity around his body. Thankfully this can easily be avoided if you are far away from him, so keep your distance.
Toxic Volley is another favourite move that it likes to do. This will send a cloud of poison towards a party member and if they get hit by this, they will become poisoned, so be sure to either avoid it or treat the poisoned individual.
The main strategy to taking this one down is to aim for his body parts rather than the actual boss itself. For example at the start aim for its Appendage and then later in the fight, target it’s Heart .
Be sure to take advantage of it’s weakness to Ice and heal when necessary.
