Explain the continental drift theory in detail (2 points). Continental Drift is a theory developed Alfred Wegener in the early 20th century. This theory strives to prove that the continents have moved across the surface of the earth throughout history. Moreover, the continents have occupied different locations on surface in the geologic past. There was several pieces of evidence to support this claims such as matching geologic features on different landforms, matching mountain ranges, paleoclimates, distribution of fossils and seafloor topography. The seafloor topography, especially the divergent boundaries go to show how and why the continents were drifting apart from each other. Divergent boundaries are 1 when two tectonic plates are moving away from each other. This seafloor spreading causes oceans to grow, and, therefore continents moving apart from one another. 3. Name one of the associated with divergent, convergent and transform boundaries of the lithospheric plate (3 points). a. Divergent: Oceanic Ridge b. Convergent: Mountain c. Transform: Earthquakes 4.
